Sturdy and beautifully designed: a Queen on rails
Once upon a time, they were the queens of European railroads: The four-cylinder express locomotives from Saxony, Baden, Würtemberg, Bavaria and also from Sweden. Inspired by the German stars of the railroad, between 1914 and 1916 the Swedish State Railways (SJ) commissioned the company NOHAB to build eleven Pacific express locomotives type F. These locomotives were very similar in design to the famous type C from Würtemberg. In the design, the Swedes also paid attention to the external beauty of the model with its streamlined engine house. Soon the F-locs conquered the main main lines Stockholm – Malmö and Stockholm – Gothenburg. However, these lines were already electrified in the 1930s. The strong locomotives finally found a new home in Denmark from 1937. There they served as type E until the 1960s and the locomotives of the same type built in Denmark even longer. In their old homeland of Sweden, however, they had never forgotten the impressive type F locomotives. In 1963, the Swedish Railway Museum bought back the former F 1200. The F 1202 followed in 1999. Today, the perfectly restored locomotive can be admired at the Swedish Railway Museum in Gävle. Her colors evoke memories of her example, the queen of the railroad from Würtemberg, type C. Unfortunately, the two majestic locomotives can never meet again because all type C locomotives have been scrapped. This leaves only the Märklin model railroad on which both queens can meet in style.
